The Counterfeit Industry is Booming

Beed™'s patented technology creates an ownership tracking system on each item you list for sale.  If a product is Beeded™ at manufacturing, you know it came from the source.  If an athlete signs something and Beeds™ it, you know he or she signed it.  If an artist lists an item for Beed™, it's directly from him/her.

And while Beed™ doesn't completely solve the problems of rare goods that are already out there, it provides a higher level of clarity around where an item came from, who authenticated it, and who's owned it.  It removes some of the fog around exclusive and rare products because right now, people are buying in the dark.

The counterfeit industry is booming, and it's not slowing down. Counterfeit goods traded globally are not only growing in volume, but the illegal profits are also increasing a lot.

According to RunRepeat.com, the International Chamber of Commerce & The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the FBI, and numerous online sources, counterfeit goods make up 5-7% of global commerce, totaling $4.2 trillion in total revenues. Estimates show 50-80% of autographed goods are fake.

These are huge numbers.

The hardest-hit categories include:

1.    Shoes and sneakers

2.    Leather goods, like purses, wallets, and belts

3.    Memorabilia and trading cards

4.    Watches & Jewelry

5.    Electronics

6.    Cosmetics

7.    Alcoholic beverages

8.    Apparel

9.    Sporting Goods

Wanna see more huge numbers?  Counterfeit sneaker makers earn up to 150% more money than real shoe companies.  Raids on counterfeiting stashes have seized millions of dollars of fake goods.  Counterfeiting is the largest criminal enterprise in the world… more than drugs and human trafficking.  Even shoe boxes, watch boxes, certificates of authenticity, and the felt bags your purse comes in... they’re all being faked.  One study showed 28% of golf clubs sold on eBay are not real.

So, what's being done to fight this? Well, lawsuits are being filed.  Cease and desist orders are being sent out.  With most counterfeiting being done overseas, good luck enforcing judgments or injunctions in a foreign country with different laws.  The counterfeiters will just close shop and open a new shop next door.  Or close their website and start a new one.

The FBI has entire departments to root out fraud. Given the volume of illegal transactions happening daily, it would take a massive law enforcement effort to make a dent in the problem. Customs agents check for counterfeiting on imports, but as little as 2% of products are actually being inspected.

In short, this counterfeiting thing is not just a big problem.  It's getting bigger very quickly and it's not going away.

The worst part?  A growing number of buyers don't care.  They'll happily buy the fake Jordan 1's if it looks close enough.  After all, who's gonna check?

Well, you can't just sweep it under the rug.  Companies, athletes, celebrities, and artists work years (and sometimes entire lifetimes) building their brand, their unique products, and their careers.  They spend millions of dollars on marketing and endorsements only to see all of that stolen by someone with a factory that can punch out good-looking fakes.  Sometimes, the fakes come from the same factories where the real items are made!

I've spoken to numerous athletes who have been shown autographed items they know they never signed. Some sellers even specialize in counterfeit goods to make more money. The silent auctions at your local charity fundraiser have tons of fake memorabilia.  If counterfeit products were like fentanyl, let's just say there are a lot of ways to get this stuff into the country and into your hands.

As the user base of Beed.it grows, so many more solutions can and will be offered.  These solutions are built off the patent portfolio of the Company, allowing a stronger community of collectors, buyers, sellers, and aficionados to fully enjoy the financial and sentimental values of real, authentic goods.
